Hi John,

Thank you for the welcome into the World that is Wildcat.

Well I picked her up today and she is a beauty!

I bought her sight unseen and am not disappointed in the slightest (huge grin on face)

What a lot of fun – the tyres do dig up the yard though as the Wife pointed out afterwards.

As far as we know this a 1973 machine and I am only the third owner. First was a doctor, then the gentleman that I bought her from today and now myself. Machine has done 900 hours since new! Engine is hardly run in!!!

Came with ripper, dozer, slasher, forks and a new bucket (no connecting arms for the latter though – so if anyone has any ideas…)

Oh and here is the strange bit…

Three months ago or so we bought a Diahatsu Delta truck from a guy in the Hobart suburb of Warrane.

Great truck!

Last Wednesday I saw the ad for this wildcat on gumtree and as mentioned, bought it sight unseen.

Went to pick it up today and the first thing the guy (Chris) said was how much did I pay for the truck?
Strange question but I told him anyway – turns out HE had sold the truck to the guy in Warrane who then sold it to us.

This was the truck Chris used to transport this Wildcat!!!
He still had the steel sides and ramps he had made to load said wildcat on said truck so threw them in as well!

Ah serendipity – gotta love it…

Thanks for the advice re seats – It already has one courtesy of Chris but harness is a great idea and yes it is extremely noisy but earmuffs will help a lot.

I have attached a few photos of ‘Priscilla’ (don’t ask) so if you would like to put this email and the pics on the forum it would be great.

Thank you John

regards

Alan Jennison

A fellow enthusiast….. I have an early model Austrak RT45 with MT500 motors which I have put new seals in but still have a problem with one motor which I have narrowed down to valve body (I think).
I am wanting to find somebody who can help me with parts/knowledge to fix.
I also have a later model chassy & some parts, not enough to rebuild but could be helpful to others.
Hope to hear from somebody!!!

Rebuilt Wildcat on Gumtree.com.au

It’s been awhile between posts but I thought Wildcat fans would want to have a look at this number currently for sale in Tasmania.

It looks like the fuel and hydraulic tanks have been replaced with stainless steel kegs…great idea!  Judging by the text in the ad the machine has been thoroughly overhauled. I especially like the seats…mine had nothing more than the steel shelf  and the back and backside really copped it.

New Austrak for 2012?

This post by Norris on the AUSTRAK forum indicates that there may be a new version of the RT45 produced and imported later in 2012, Not a lot of other info provided other than it would be cummins powered and updated,

Keep your fingers crossed. I’ve asked Norris for more info in the meantime checking the AUSTRAK forum regularly would be in order.

The concept of the AUSTRAK is brilliant and I’m sure sales would result at the right price.

WILDCAT FOR SALE – TRADINGPOST

This machine is an original Wankel powered model similar I would guess to the one in the Museum collection.

AD details indicate the following:

RD60793, Going, Sachs / Wankel engine, bull blade, booms spray, spare Wankel engine,
Price     $ 2,500  Negotiable
Item location     Churchill, VIC, Australia
Condition     Fair

It appears to be in very good nick  for a piece of machinery dating  from 40+ years ago. The Wankel motors were problematic but what you would do with that would depend on whether you are interested in preserving it as a collectors piece or putting it to work

The Ad is no longer current

AUSTRAK TRACTOR FORUM

If you Google Austrak Tractor one of the results points you to a new AUSTRAK Tractor forum.

This forum   has been set up by a chap who has a long history of working on and with Austraks.  I would recommend that anyone here seriously interested in the RT45 should keep an eye on that site as well as this one. Norris who goes by the nick name Turtle has a wealth of knowledge that he is more than willing to share.
